The mother of 15-year-old Sierra LaMar pleaded indirectly Tuesday with the man suspected of killing her daughter to "end this nightmare" and reveal where the Morgan Hill teenager is.
Marlene LaMar spoke at a news conference Tuesday after the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department revealed more details about Antolin Garcia-Torres, the 21-year-old man accused of kidnapping and killing the high school cheerleader.
Officials believe that Sierra was abducted on her way to school March 16, and authorities said Tuesday that DNA evidence found on her bag led them to Garcia-Torres, who was arrested Monday night at a Safeway market in Morgan Hill.
Although Sheriff Laurie Smith said detectives had "direct and circumstantial" evidence causing them to believe that the teenager was murdered, Marlene LaMar said she was not giving up hope that her daughter could still be alive.
"Her body hasn't been found," LaMar said, her voice starting to break. "I believe there was a reason she wasn't found. We're not giving up on that."
She also addressed her daughter's suspected killer, begging him to "say where she is."
"Please, please give the information that you have to lead us to Sierra to help end this nightmare," she said.
Garcia-Torres faces charges of kidnapping and murder, Smith said.
Investigators still do not know how or when Sierra was killed, officials said, expressing hope that Garcia-Torres would be more forthcoming in future interviews.
