Missing cheerleader Sierra LaMar has all but been declared dead by the sheriff in her press conference announcing the arrest of suspect Antolin Garcia-Torres. Sheriff Laurie Smith announced that Garcia-Torres kidnapped and murdered the missing 15-year-old Morgan Hill girl.
"Our investigation has led to the identification of Antolin Garcia-Torres as the person responsible for the kidnap and murder of Sierra Lamar. We developed this through our investigation based on direct and circumstantial evidence including forensic analysis conducted by the Santa Clara County DA's crime lab," she said.
Announcing that there is concrete evidence to indicate that Sierra is dead comes as a shock to some, but since the beginning of this case it's been speculated that the person responsible for her disappearance may have murdered her several weeks ago. Nonetheless, there has been no body found in the search for the missing girl.
Sierra's family are holding onto hope that she will be found alive, but crime lab evidence apparently indicates otherwise. A few weeks ago it was released that the crime lab did produce new leads. It wasn't long after this that the red VW Jetta was blasted all over headlines. No doubt, they were closing in on Garcia-Torres for at least a few days before arresting him -- and his family knew about it.
Hopefully Sierra LaMar's body is recovered soon. Hopefully the man possibly responsible finds it in his heart to lead detectives to her whereabouts.
