LA CROSSE, Wis. -- While many presents were exchanged and rounds of golf played this Father’s Day, one area dad said he received the most precious gift of all.
Kristoff Ausderau’s third child was born a few days ago, just in time to spend Father's Day with her dad.
Ausderau can't pick just one word to describe what he's feeling.
"Elated, happy, excited, blessed, you know, just very fortunate,†said Ausderau.
His wife, Nikki Ausderau, had a few things planned for Father's Day this year, but said the birth of their daughter, Bryquelle, is the greatest gift she could give him.
"I don't think we could ask for anything more special around Father's Day. I know I could buy probably the biggest gift in the world but I don't think it would measure up to what a child brings into the world on Father's Day," she said.
This couple from Whitehall seems to have a habit of having babies on holidays. In fact, Bryquelle isn't their f irst baby born just before Father's Day.
"We have a daughter that will turn 5 on the 4th of July and a son that will turn 3 on June 20, so he was born the day before Father's Day. And now, Bryquelle was born here the week of Father's Day as well," said Kristoff Ausderau.
Thinking about his future with Bryquelle reminds him of all the reasons he loves being a father.
"Just seeing the joy on their faces when they learn something for the first time, whether it's, you know, maybe saying the alphabet or singing a song, or learning how to dribble a basketball, whatever it might be. That joy on their face is what really makes everything worthwhile," he said.
Nikki Ausderau said the holiday is a great reminder of just what a great dad her husband has been.
"I couldn't ask for a better husband, father. He takes very good care of all of us together, no matter if it's just putting a basic puzzle together, health-wise, or anything like that. He is alwa ys there for us," she said.
And while some dads get a card or a tie for Father's Day, Bryquelle is one gift this family will celebrate every year.
"My wife is the best Father's Day shopper ever. I've gotten two wonderful presents on Father's Day. So it's been pretty amazing," said Kristoff Ausderau.
The Ausderau family doesn't know when they're going to be able to bring Bryqelle home yet. But when she does come home, she's got an all-pink room waiting for her.
