Should the New York Jets Sign Chad Ochocinco? Fan's View

Chad Ochocinco would be the perfect fit for the New York Jets.

Ochocinco, the charismatic 34-year-old wide receiver who was released by the New England Patriots on June 7, still has plenty of gas left in the tank, and he would take the pressure off rookie Stephen Hill as the No. 2 target on offense.

The former standout is a six-time Pro Bowl selection, and just three years removed from his last appearance in the game.

He tallied just 276 receiving yards last year in a limited role, but the Patriots are so deep at the wide receiver position that he didn't get as many looks last year as he would have on any other team.

I look back to his reign with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2009 and 2010, where he was a reliable No. 2 option who could tally 70-75 receptions for close to 1,000 yards.

Plaxico Burress, the Jets' No. 2 option last year, notched just 45 receptions for 612 yards. Ochocinco would be a significant upgrade, and a sure bet to surpass that mark.

As for Stephen Hill, the second round pick out of Georgia Tech, he just turned 21 years old and may need time to develop before making a splash in the league.

Additionally, New York Jets owner Woody Johnson is always looking to get his team media exposure, and Ochocinco would certainly earn him plenty of it.

Perhaps his greatest achievement this offseason was getting the Super Bowl-winning New York Giants wiped off the front pages of the local sports newspapers, by trading for Tim Tebow.

Many teams would be scared that Ochocinco's wacky off-the-field behavior would be a major distraction, but not the New York Jets.

With Rex Ryan's brash personality and epic trash-talking, and Tim Tebow's ridiculous popularity, bringing in Ochocinco would be just a blip on the radar.

Just over a year ago, before the Patriots scooped him up, New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis called for his team to sign Ochocinco.

"I want Chad to come here and play for us, to be a Jet," Revis told New York Metro in Feb. of 2011. "I've been in his ear a lot about it ... I think he could do well here. I've been telling him to come here."

Just 16 months have passed since that interview, so you'd have to guess Revis may still be interested in bringing in the perennial Pro-Bowler.
